2. Composite Aluminum Foil (More Common, More Versatile)
Structure: Typically consists of “printing layer / substrate layer / aluminum foil layer / heat-sealing layer”.
Outer Layer (Printing Layer/Protective Layer): Usually PET or BOPP film, providing excellent surface printability and high transparency, protecting the printed pattern.
Middle Layer (Barrier Layer): Aluminum foil, providing core barrier function.
Inner Layer (Heat-Sealing Layer): Usually CPP, PE, or specially modified polyolefins, providing good heat-sealing performance with the bottle neck (mostly PE/PP material) and ensuring food safety contact.
Features:
Optimal Overall Performance: Combines high strength, high barrier properties, good flexibility, puncture resistance, and excellent printability.
Highly Designable: By adjusting the materials and thickness of each layer, it can adapt to the needs of different foods (e.g., resistance to cooking, freezing, and corrosion).
Relatively High Cost: However, its performance far surpasses that of single-material packaging.
Typical Applications: Bottle and jar packaging for liquid or oily foods (e.g., sauces, yogurt lids), easily oxidized foods, baby food, and high-end snacks.
Aluminum-free heat-sealable films are widely used to meet the needs of transparent packaging, metal detection, or cost control.
Common Structures:
1. Transparent High-Barrier Film: Such as PET/ALOx or SiOx/CPP. Utilizing alumina or silica coatings to provide high barrier properties while maintaining transparency, allowing a clear view of the contents.
2. Multilayer Co-extruded Film: Such as PET/PE or OPP/CPP. Achieving specific moisture-proof, oxygen-barrier, and heat-sealing properties through the combination of multiple layers of plastics with different properties.
Features:
Transparent and Aesthetically Pleasing: Showcases the product itself, enhancing its appeal.
Microwaveable/Metal Detector: Metal-free, making it more convenient and safer to use.
Environmentally Friendly and Recyclable: Partially constructed from a single material, facilitating recycling.
Barrier Strength Slightly Inferior to Aluminum Foil: However, it is sufficient for products with short shelf lives or less stringent barrier requirements.
Typical Applications: Jelly cups, dessert cups, sauce cups, instant beverage bottle cap sealing, and food packaging requiring metal detection.
When selecting a suitable lid material for your food samples, please consider the following:
1. Food Characteristics:
Acidity/Alkalinity/Oil Content: Determines the heat-sealing material; it must be corrosion-resistant and prevent oil penetration.
Moisture Content/Form: Solid, liquid, or powder? Determines material strength and moisture-proof requirements.
Storage Conditions: Does it require resistance to refrigeration, freezing, or high-temperature sterilization (e.g., above 121°C)?
2. Barrier Requirements:
For foods extremely sensitive to oxygen and moisture (e.g., oils, vitamins) → aluminum foil composite materials are preferred.
For foods with general barrier requirements or requiring transparent display → high-barrier coatings or composite plastic films can be selected.
3. Packaging Equipment and Processes:
Heat Sealing Parameters: The material’s initial sealing temperature and heat sealing strength must be matched with your filling and sealing equipment.
Easy to Tear vs. Strongness: Does the consumer need easy tearing, or an extremely strong seal?

4. Brand and Regulations:
Printing Effect: High-definition color printing, brand logos, QR codes, instruction manual text, etc., are required.
Regulatory Compliance: All materials (especially the heat-sealing layer that directly contacts food) must comply with national food safety standards (e.g., China’s GB 4806 series standards).
Sustainability: Are there requirements for recyclability? Aluminum-free structures or single-material structures are of greater concern.

2. For foods requiring visual display, short to medium shelf life, or microwave processing (such as jams, yogurt, and ready-to-eat desserts), transparent high-barrier heat-sealing film is the ideal choice.
3. Key Steps: Before bulk purchasing, it is essential to conduct sample testing, including heat-sealing strength testing, compatibility testing, and accelerated shelf-life testing, and to communicate closely with your packaging equipment and material suppliers.
